With deep sadness, we announce Rinky Chakma, the 2017 Femina Miss India Tripura, lost her battle with breast cancer. Since 2022, the beauty queen has had a malignant phyllodes tumor, or breast cancer.
Following her cancer diagnosis, she underwent surgery; however, the illness proceeded to her lungs and subsequently to her head, resulting in a brain tumor. As things grew worse, she was unable to continue receiving chemotherapy. On February 22, she was taken to the ICU of Max Hospital Saket and placed on a ventilator.
Three days ago, Rinky’s reports were shared online by Priyanka Kumari, her close friend and Femina Miss India 2017 runner-up, in an effort to raise money.
“Hey, we are raising funds for our friend Rinky Chakma,” she wrote, pleading with her followers to help her friend. Due to her two years of cancer treatment, her family has run out of money. She had previously undergone surgery for breast cancer, but the disease later spread to her brain and lungs. At AIIMS, Delhi, she was receiving chemotherapy treatments. She was unfortunately released until her condition improved because she was no longer able to tolerate the chemotherapy. She was brought to Max Hospital Saket on February 22nd in an emergency. Due to a failed lung, she is currently in the intensive care unit and is on a ventilator. In order to continue her treatment, we must raise money. A few weeks prior, Rinky had also posted something on her blog asking for donations to help her pay for the surgery.
“I’m getting chemo sessions right now,” the writer wrote. After this, hopefully, we’ll perform brain surgery on me. I wanted to let everyone know that my family and I are going through a difficult moment. The past two years have not been easy due to frequent hospital visits and stays. We have spent all of our savings on my treatment over the past two years, which is why I am currently accepting donations. I reasoned that sharing my experiences with others would help me feel better. I am too weak to talk on the phone right now because of my treatments, so please send me messages instead. And say a pray for me. Sending love and healing to everyone”.

A remarkable woman with grace and purpose, Rinky was a force to be reckoned with. She competed for the title of Miss Beauty with a Purpose at the Femina Miss India 2017 pageant, representing Tripura, and won for her compassionate and influential work.
